Walmart Infrastructure Failings Draws More Scrutiny from Experts

RUDH continues to battle for resolution to serious deficiencies built into the new Walmart project. Even though this development received $6,000,000 in public funding, the public infrastructure is worse off than before development. Sidewalks have been entirely removed, leaving pedestrians no option but to tread along a grass right of way and around utility poles to reach Koehler St. The newly constructed intersection has only two pedestrian crossings on it’s four sides, sidewalks have utilities planted in the middle of them reducing accessibility. The public lost $250,000+ worth of mature shade-bearing Live Oak trees from Yale–and the majority of replacement trees were allowed to be planted on private Walmart property. The 380 Agreement awarded to the developer by the City was to ensure a better project. It has failed on all accounts and the public is picking up the tab.
